Meet the Citrine Forktail, identified by the folks who run Bugguide.net as "the lovely little Ischnura hastata." Lovely, indeed. And little, indeed. Giff Beaton tells me the two females I snapped today -- one immature and one mature -- measure about .08-1.1 inch. No wonder I had so much trouble photographing the little buggers! Especially the immature damselfly, who was more than a bit nervous about the big thing in red (me) leaning in on her.
I have lost count of the species of damselfly and dragonfly. Tomorrow, I shall have to take a serious inventory!
