This is just to say
that I miss
your girls knocking
on my door,
asking for eggs
or giving me cookies,
and I miss their laughter,
stray balls in the yard,
your husband's comments
("Robley, you look like
Teddy Roosevelt"),
and your kindness.
But today in rain
I stole a little sunshine
under your azaleas,
native to this place
as you and yours are.
All is well: may it be well
there where you are too.
